A milestone for Marylebone Boys' School as its inaugural cohort receives its GCSE results today

Marylebone Boys’ School, a free school set up in 2014, has received its first ever set of GCSE results.

Highlights from the results that the school has achieved include:

• 70% of boys received a grade 5+ in English and 84% were awarded a grade 4+ in English. In this subject, 30% of all grades were 9-7.
• 66% of boys received a grade 5+ in Maths and 84% received a 4+ in Maths. In this subject, 25% of all grades were 9-7.
• The average grade for all boys across all subjects was a Grade 5.
• Over a fifth of our grades were 9-7.
• The percentage of boys passing English and Maths at Grade 5+ was 58%. This compares to a national average in 2018 of 36.8% for boys and 40.2% for boys and girls.

Commenting on the school’s results, Headteacher Mr Richard Ardron states: “The boys of Marylebone Boys’ School have comfortably outperformed boys nationally. We feel this has exemplified some of the benefits of single sex education rather than educating boys in a mixed setting. I am so proud of this cohort, which has worked extremely hard and should be congratulated on receiving some tremendous results.”

This year’s cohort had some outstanding individual results, with special congratulations to the following boys:

• Luka with 9 Grade 9s, 1 Grade 8 and 1 Grade 7.
• Luay with 8 Grade 9s and 2 Grade 8s.
• Oscar with 6 Grade 9s, 3 Grade 8s and 1 Grade 7.
• Keval with 7 Grade 8s and 3 Grade 7s.

Mr Ardron adds: “I wish every single boy in this cohort the very best for their next steps, either at Marylebone Boys’ School Sixth Form, or at another post-16 establishment. This group will leave a legacy for Marylebone Boys’ School for years to come.”
