Duke of Edinburgh Award

As summer is approaching and lockdown relaxing, we have several pupils who are aiming to complete their Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards this summer.

We have 35 pupils in Year 10 completing their Bronze Award who have been working hard over the past year to complete the individual sections of the award (Physical - participating in sports at least once a week, Volunteering - supporting a group or individual in their local community and learning a new Skill) before they undertake their expeditions this summer.

They will be joined by a further 33 pupils in Year 9 who are just beginning the individual sections of their Bronze Award. Both groups will be going on an overnight training expedition to Epping Forest (21-22 June), before they complete their assessment expedition in the Chiltern Hills (28-29 June). We also have a total of 19 Year 10 and 11 pupils who are completing their Silver Awards this summer and will be taking on the challenge of a three-night training expedition in the Southern Peak District (5-8 July) before their assessment expedition in the Northern Peak District (14-17 July).

These awards challenge pupils to develop in a range of ways beyond our school curriculum and are something that every pupil can benefit from completing. We will next be offering the chance to sign up in September. This will be for the Bronze Award to our current Year 8 pupils and for the Silver Award to our current Year 9 pupils.
