Next half term, a team of experts from the world-renowned technology company Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Europe Ltd will be taking over our Science Club on Tuesday afternoons to run a series of practical and interactive projects for boys in Years 7 - 10.
These hands-on experiments will be a great way to build on existing Science lessons and are designed to challenge, whilst encouraging creative thinking and curiosity. They are also a fantastic opportunity to meet professionals working in Science and technology and to learn about the pathway they have taken to build their career. With the Mitsubishi head office being located right here in Paddington - directly opposite the school - this is an exciting and unique way for our pupils to access knowledge and expertise from a leading business within our own local community.
MBS has always delivered Science Club as part of its Enrichment offer. This year, pupils have taken part in a series of fun projects that are specifically designed to be underpinned by science, including extracting DNA from strawberries, creating spewing volcanoes and making cars with balloons that propelled. This half term, participants are creating a marble roller-coaster with enough height to loop-the-loop.
The upcoming Science Club projects delivered by the Mitsubishi experts will run each week from Tuesday 5th March – Tuesday 2nd April (3.00-4.00pm), and in the last session, students will have the opportunity to visit the Mitsubishi headquarters, where they will present the work that they have produced over the half term to senior employees.
Participation is limited to 24 places and the Science department are in the process of putting forward the names of 24 boys from Years 7 – 10 who show a real passion for Science.
