Role at MBS Sixth Form: Maths Teacher and Deputy Head of Sixth Form
Since: September 2018
What inspired you to go into teaching?
I started out as a Teaching Assistant and Cover Supervisor and quickly realised how much I enjoyed young people's company - the variety in the workplace is next to none and the holidays are a huge perk!
What attracted you to work at MBS?
The scope for growth at a newly established school was exciting. I am now helping shape the Sixth Form and build the foundation for the next generation of young adults.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Seeing first-hand the positive impact I have on children's lives makes the hard work worth it.
What achievement are you most proud of?
Representing the UK as a pencak silat (martial arts) athlete in the Belgium Open a few years ago, whilst juggling teaching responsibilities. I didn't win any medals but the chance to perform was amazing.
Why should a student choose your subject at A Level?
Maths at A-level is challenging yet rewarding. It opens up doors to so many careers in STEM subjects, finance, business and is highly valued as a subject.
What words of wisdom would you give your 17-year-old self?
Try as many new things as you can. Make a plan for the future but be flexible with the outcomes. Pick subjects you genuinely enjoy, otherwise you will struggle to push yourself when things get tough. Last but not least, don't be afraid of failure! It's okay to make mistakes and pick yourself back up again.
