Public speaking workshop

On Thursday 20 January, thirty Year 10 students took part in the Jack Petchey Foundation public speaking workshop ran by our instructor, Sarah Quist of The Speakers Trust. The day started with our Year 10s reflecting on how they felt about public speaking before delving into the deep end with a range of interactive activities which required the boys to think on their feet and speak convincingly on a random topic. Despite being nervous, our boys were resilient and rose to each challenge presented supporting each other through their individual barriers with understanding and kindness. By the end, each student had found their voice and spoke for two minutes to the group about a topic they were passionate about. From getting us to reflect on the beauty of our lives to questioning the cause of wars in the world, our students well and truly had the opportunity to speak out! What’s next for our young speakers? The Jack Petchey ‘Speak Out’ Regionals!
