Silver Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition

This week, 17 pupils completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition in the Peak District. Pupils got the train to Matlock station on Monday morning with their backpacks stuffed full of food and camping equipment for the coming days. They walked to Barn Farm Campsite - a shorter first day to test the legs - where Mr Mansell and Mr Fahy had prepared a welcome BBQ for them. Once this meal was eaten however, pupils had to be completely self-sufficient until on the train home on Thursday, not even allowed to purchase anything from local shops.

On the second and third days, all groups walked through the picturesque nature reserve Lathkill Dale and camped near Monyash. By Thursday morning all groups were extremely tired (particularly one group who had a rather longer third day than planned) but motivated to get up early and make it to the station in time for the train home. Well done to all pupils involved.
