On Tuesday 19 June, twenty of our Year 8 students got the opportunity to take part in the 1851 Trust STEM roadshow. We went to the Merchant Taylor's school who were hosting the event. The boys learned about the Americas Cup, the oldest sporting cup in the world. Countries that take part design a boat and sail it around the Isle of Wight, which means that design of the boat is incredibly important.
Over the course of the day the boys saw how the yachts used in the race have evolved over time, explored some of the modern materials used in the making of boats, designed and tested their own hull and then had a go at some water activities (canoeing and kayaking). A brilliant day was had by all and has hopefully inspired some young engineers!
